FAQ
Questions, answered
What is Finances?
A place to see where your money goes. Bring in your bank statements and it sorts every payment, shows the year at a glance, helps the self-employed with Self Assessment, and lets you compare plans for the future.
Which banks does it work with?
Any bank that lets you download a CSV file with the date, a description and the amounts, which is most of them. It also reads PDF statements from HSBC and Nationwide directly.
Do I have to connect my bank or give it my login?
No. Finances never connects to your bank. You download statements yourself and bring them in.
Are my statements uploaded?
No. The file is read in your browser and never leaves your computer. Only the list of payments is saved to your account.
Who can see my figures?
Only you. Every account is kept apart by the database itself. When you use the chat or the tax helper, the parts they need are sent to Google’s Gemini to work out the answer. The privacy policy has the detail.
Can it file my tax return?
No. It sorts your payments into the boxes of the short self-employment pages (SA103S) and gives you the totals to copy into HMRC’s online service. Check them first, ideally with an accountant.
Is it financial advice?
No. It shows you your own numbers and how different plans might play out. For decisions that matter, talk to a regulated adviser.
Can the chat change things?
It can tidy your figures when you ask: move payments to another category, teach it a new shop, set up a plan. It cannot move money or contact anyone.
Can I share it with a partner?
Not yet. Each account is one person’s.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes, in your phone’s browser, and you can add it to your home screen like an app.
What does it cost?
Finances is part of a Meta-Me subscription: £8 a month, with a 30-day free trial, and it includes every Meta-Me app. See pricing.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Settings has a button that deletes everything Finances holds for you, straight away.
