Privacy

Privacy policy

Effective 1 October 2026.

1. What Finances keeps

  • Your Meta-Me account: name and email, from Meta-Me sign-in.
  • The payments from the statements you bring in: date, description, amount, the category you give it and, for Self Assessment, the tax box.
  • What you set up: categories and the rules that sort them, the accounts and balances you note down, plans, expected income and costs, and your tax-year entries.
  • Your conversations with the chat.

2. What it does not keep

Your statement files. A PDF or CSV statement is read in your browser and never uploaded; only the payments listed in it are saved. Finances never connects to your bank and never asks for your bank login.

3. AI processing

Finances uses Google's Gemini in two places, and only when you use them:

  • The chat. Your question, and the figures it looks up to answer it, are sent to Gemini.
  • The tax helper. When you ask it to sort a tax year, each payment's description, amount and category are sent to Gemini to suggest a box.

Your data is never used to train general AI models. Everything Gemini suggests is yours to check and change; nothing is decided for you.

4. Third-party services

  • Google Gemini: AI processing, as above
  • Meta-Me sign-in: authentication

5. Security

  • Every account is kept apart by the database itself: only you can read your figures
  • Self-hosted on Meta-Me's own servers in the UK, with standby copies of the database and daily off-site backups
  • Encrypted in transit (HTTPS), reaching our servers through a Cloudflare Tunnel
  • Stored readable rather than encrypted on our servers, because the charts, the chat and the tax helper all need to read it

6. Your rights

Settings has a button that deletes everything Finances holds for you, straight away. For a copy of your data, or anything else, contact [email protected]. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
